How it works

Silhouettes come from Natural Earth at 1:10m and are trimmed to the mainland and its near islands, so France is France without French Guiana and Norway without Svalbard. Countries under 300 km² are left out because a dot is not a puzzle.

Distance is the great-circle distance between the two countries' centre points; the arrow points from your guess toward the answer. Proximity is that distance as a share of half the planet.

The country list is the usual 197: the 193 United Nations members plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan. Continents follow the UN geoscheme, so Russia, Cyprus and Kosovo count as Europe, Turkey and the Caucasus as Asia, and Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean as North America.
