How it works
Pairs always differ by at least fifteen percent so a rounding difference can never make a round unfair; Sudan against South Sudan is fine, France against Spain is not offered. Areas are total area in square kilometres, inland water included, from the open countries dataset.
Best streak stays in this browser. Two hundred countries makes for around twenty thousand fair pairs, so it does not repeat much.
The country list is the usual 197: the 193 United Nations members plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan. Continents follow the UN geoscheme, so Russia, Cyprus and Kosovo count as Europe, Turkey and the Caucasus as Asia, and Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean as North America.
